I am in Ontario for a couple of weeks so no painting for two weeks. I am here for a family wedding. The colours are still vibrant but slowly falling. There is something so bitter sweet about fall...the beauty is so vibrant and so fleeting. Any day now the wind and rain will bring them all down.
It is always nice to see old friends and my sister. Two weeks will go quickly.
Welcome to My Painting World
I have been painting for over 20 years, mainly in watercolours. I chose this medium because I loved the light shining through the paper so most of my work is done in transparent colours.
I am very active in the art community here on Vancouver Island and I bring in International Artists to give workshops here twice a year. This is done through the Saanich Peninsula Arts & Crafts Society of which I am a member. If you are interested in seeing what is coming up click on the Workshop link below.
Since I live in the flower capital of Canada I do alot of florals but have recently branched out into combining my watercolours with acrylic and I really like the affect.

The fall weather is here on the island...misty mornings and warm afternoons..I think everyone who is an artist settles down to start painting from all the photos taken in the summer.
This has been such an unusual summer healthwise I didn't get very motivated but hopefully the "bug" will hit me soon.
The Christmas Artisans show is being set up and the pieces of work are really exceptional this year. Such a diverse selection from art glass, wood work, weaving, painting, to beautiful copper kaleidoscopes. It proves again how many artists live in my area.
I am off to Toronto for my neices wedding so will be away for a few weeks. It is always wonderful to see old friends again too.
Keep your brushes moving!

I love to teach which is a surprise to me. I find I love imparting what knowledge I do have with others. At the moment I teach two mornings a week and really look forward to that time.
As a young girl I had the opportunity to become a school teacher and didn't think I would have the patience. You know the old saying...you can't put an old head on young shoulders!
I just wondered how many of my followers teach? Let me know.

The Sidney Fine Arts Show is being juried this weekend. There are over 2,000 entries so the chances are pretty slim but I am submitting two. I know one of the jurors and the work I am submitting is something she does in her own work so that might help.
This Show has become quite a prestigious show in the North West and it really is a beautiful show once it is hung. I find the art work is getting bigger and bigger each year. They are nice, but I feel that by taking such large pieces it eliminates spots for smaller pieces. There is only so many spots to hang art in the show!
I always enjoy the sculpture and I think we have some excellent carvers in this area.
